Q: Can SDL Trados Studio 2009 connect to SDL TM Server 2007?
Due to the new Translation Memory infrastructure of SDL Trados Studio 2009 it is not possible to connect directly to the old SDL TM Server 2007. However here are some suggestions on how to make working between the 2 different technologies possible:
It is easy to upgrade your previous TMs and upgrade to the new TM Server 2009. Through a combination of wizards, it is possible to seamlessly convert all your assets to the new version
If your TM Server is mainly used to pre-leverage files, you can use SDL Trados 2007 to prepare project, and output TTX files that can then be processed directly in SDL Trados Studio 2009. See the technical white paper for more information.
Q: Can Workbench 2007 connect to TM Server 2009?
This is not possible, due to the difference in translation memory format. See previous question for usage scenarios.
SDL Trados Team provides a solution to share Translation Memories (TMs) within a small workgroup or team, extending the functionality of SDL Trados Studio up to five users within a LAN environment. Benefit from the power of sharing within a team, without the complexity of a large scale server solution.
Simplicity
Consistency
Productivity
SDL Trados Team extends SDL Trados Studio by supporting shared TMs in smaller groups for up-to five users working together in a Local Area Network (LAN). An easy, affordable entry point for desktop users, SDL Trados Team includes all SDL Trados Studio components, but adds server power to small teams. Based on SDL TM Server technology, all server-based TM functionality is accessed from within SDL Trados Studio. Lightweight deployment, running on Microsoft SQL Server Express, allows SDL Trados Team to be setup easily with a simple clickable installation.
Operating system support: SDL Trados Team supports Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2008 Server, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems can be used.
Hardware: SDL recommends running SDL Trados Team either on a mid-range server or mid-range desktop computer. Mid-range servers are recommended for optimum performance. A mid-range server typically has an Intel Xeon CPU, 4 GB of RAM and at least 100 GB of free hard disk space; a mid-range desktop computer has a recent Intel or AMD CPU, 3-4 GB of RAM and the same amount of free hard disk space.
