What is the SDL TRADOS Certification program?

The SDL TRADOS Certification Program is the industry’s premier technology based certification which provides a recognized standard of excellence in SDL Trados software knowledge. It’s a comprehensive professional education program designed to develop and validate expertise in the use of SDL Trados translation technology tools.

The SDL TRADOS Certification program is designed to help educate the translator community on the latest technological developments and best practices in translation technology, terminology management and automated quality assurance checks.

SDL TRADOS has made a substantial investment to bring together all the components needed for a successful Certification program, including extensive courseware available online or in print, multiple training options for developing the required skills and online Certification testing.

There are 3 levels of Certification training offered to support the SDL TRADOS Certification program:

a) Getting Started Training - supports Level 1 Certification.

Achievement of Level 1 Certification means you have mastered the basic functions of SDL Trados 2007.

b) Intermediate Training - supports Level 2 Certification.

Becoming Level 2 Certified means you have achieved proficiency in enhanced software functionality.

c) Advanced Training - supports Level 3 Certification and leads to SDL TRADOS Certified User.

SDL TRADOS Certified status at Level 3 signifies super-user knowledge of SDL Trados 2007. It offers the highest level of expertise and troubleshooting.

What do I receive if I purchase this offer?
You will receive:
- Either a full license or an upgrade to SDL Trados 2007 (which includes Translator’s Workbench, SDLX, SDL MultiTerm, WinAlign and much more).
- One session of live web-delivered training at any level of your choice (Getting Started / Intermediate / Advanced) for either SDLX or Translator’s Workbench. The training lasts up to 3 hours. - All the exams for becoming SDL TRADOS Certified in either the SDLX or Translator’s Workbench component.

I am currently going through 2006 Certification, how does this affect me?
We have endeavoured to make the transition to the new version as quick and as easy as possible. Your account will automatically be updated with everything you need to upgrade your Certfication status to the SDL Trados 2007 product. When you log into your account, you will find an “upgrade exam” and free self-running training tutorials focusing on the new features and functionality of SDL Trados 2007. The exam and online tutorials are concise and very simple to follow, focusing only on what’s new in SDL Trados 2007. This way you can easily upgrade your Certification to the SDL Trados 2007 version.

This upgrade is delivered free of charge and will appear automatically in your account.

Additionally, now you have the possibility to receive a Level 1 or Level 2 Certification upon successful completion of the Getting Started (Level 1) and Intermediate (Level 2) Certification exams.

I have already upgraded or purchased SDL Trados 2007, is there still an offer for me?
Yes. We have an offer valid for the people already on the latest version of the software. The offer includes one web delivered training session and all the Certification exams. You can choose the training and exams package for either SDLX or Translator’s Workbench with prices starting from $250. If I want to Certify as soon as possible, will I have to pay to upgrade to 2007?
No, we will offer a free exam to “upgrade” you to SDL Trados 2007 Certification as soon as it becomes available. We have endeavoured to make this transition to the new version as easy, and quick as possible. As soon as the new training material and exams become available, you will automatically receive an “upgrade exam” and free self-running training tutorial focusing on the new features and functionality of SDL Trados 2007. There will also be a free training tutorial to help you prepare to the latest level of certification.

Both the exams and the online tutorials will be concise and very simple to go through, focusing only on what’s new in SDL Trados 2007 to easily help you upgrade your Certification to the latest version.

If I am SDL Trados 2006 certified, do I have to take all of the exams again?
We have endeavoured to make the transition to the new version as easy and quick as possible. You will find that your account has automatically been updated with everything you need to update your Certfication process to the SDL Trados 2007 product. When you log back into your account you will find an “upgrade exam” and free self-running training tutorial focusing on the new features and functionality of SDL Trados 2007. The exam and online tutorials are concise and very simple to go through, focusing only on what’s new in SDL Trados 2007.

When you successfully pass the upgrade exam you will upgrade your Certification to the 2007 version.

The upgrade is delivered free of charge and will take place automatically in your account

What does the Certification training cover?
The Certification training is very comprehensive and covers all aspects of the SDL Trados software. It is split into two separate paths: Translator’s Workbench and SDLX. You can choose to certify in either of the tools or in both.

How do I book my training online?
After you purchased this offer and payment has been completed, you will receive – in two separate emails – an invoice and an email with instructions on how to book your training online. We use an automated booking system, and it is important you make a note of your invoice number as you will need it to book the training online.

The first step is to identify your current level of knowledge with the translation tools, in order to select the training session level and subsequent Certification exams that will benefit you most.

We recommend you take the Placement Exam first.

After you have taken the Placement exam and identified the most suitable level of training for you, please visit: http://www.sdl.com/asp/education/, with your invoice number. Search for the course you want to attend from the calendar, book it through the online system (ensuring you use your invoice number when requested) and your training will be confirmed.

You will find your software ready for download in the customer centre area of our website. Your software will be in ‘My Downloads’ area and your license in ‘My licenses’ area of the site.

Training
You must then take the placement exam to assess your level of knowledge of SDL Trados software.

What is live training through the web and how does it work?
To deliver live training through the web we use a provider called Webex (www.webex.com)
You will be able to listen to the presenter speaking, while seeing his/her screen on your computer. You will also be able to ask questions to the trainer at the end.

Do I have to pay phone charges for the live training?
We have a set of telephone number set-up for local access – so in most cases you will only have to pay for a local phone call.

How long do I have to take the online training with this package before it expires?
You will be able to book your training course up to the end of September.

What does it mean if my customer is asking if I am SDL TRADOS Certified?
If you have passed successfully all the exams you will SDL TRADOS Certified.
You will receive a card and a web page that will allow you to prove your certification status.
